Installed new drive as slave and it was detected when pc booted. Also
appeared in device manager.
I shutdown the computer down but when It restarted it keeps telling me
there is a problem with my
hard drive and pc will not boot until I disconnect this large drive.Any
ideas pls.
I am running XP Pro on AMD computer.

Primary drive = master or cable select
Secondary drive = slave or cable select

If you only had one drive before, and it is a Western Digital, it is
jumpered for "single" or cable select. Change it! Or, jumper the second
drive as cable select to match the primary drive.

Did you have it jumper as slave..? Did you partition and format the
drive...? Does you bios support 48 bit LBA and is it enabled.?

Didn't get a chance to format it because of the mentioned probs.Tried the
jumpers in every permutation
since but still the same problem.

Maybe it died? Maybe the connectors aren't well seated? Try reconnecting
them, or trying in in a different machine, or take it to the store and
replace it.
