So I got a new WD Blue 1TB internal HDD to expand my PC's storage. It's only used for storing files, it's NOT a boot drive.

Lately, when I try to view photos on the drive, sometimes it can't open files and folders. The green loading bar on the address bar takes forever to load. The window freezes and it can cause Windows Explorer to crash. At one point the HDD vanished from My Computer and didn't even show up in Disk Management. I changed the SATA port and the problem was solved for a short while. When the problem reoccured after just one day, I changed the power socket. It seems to be doing fine for now, but I don't know how long it will last.

I was sure that the HDD is faulty. I ran various diagnostics on it. It passes S.M.A.R.T. tests, and SeaTools diagnostics flawlessly. Scans revealed no bad sectors at all. So what could be the causing this?

Right now I'm suspicious of the Molex-Sata adapter which I'm using to power the HDD. Here's a picture of it: http://www.vesalia.de/pic/molex2xsata.jpg

Could it be that this adapter can't provide enough power to the HDD? Or is it some other culprit?
