HDD almost dead. Can't copy Users folder?

My hdd is almost dead. I want to copy my files before throwing it away. The only problem I'm facing is when I access the Users folder. I'm unable to open the folder and copy my files. I tried to do this within safe mode but it says "locating files" for about 10 hours without doing anything. Any recommendations?

Couple of things to try:

1. Run a check disk to find and fix disk errors. Open CMD and then type this command: chckdsk /f /r Once this completes you can try again.

2. If first option does not work you can try and get an Ubuntu liver CD and boot into Ubuntu (no need to insall) and try and access the files.
