[SOLVED] Hdd and silent PC build

I'm building a new silent rig and have a question of HDD noise. I'm intending to get a SSD to install OS and applications/games. However for data storage (documents, pictures, videos) , planning to have a HDD. Will the HDD make noise when I'm not accessing the files in the HDD?

Generally it is always spinning, until it actually goes to sleep.
And you personally don't have to be accessing it for it to 'wake up'.

How much space do you need, and what is your budget for this drive?

I have noticed that windows waits for all drives to be ready before windows explorer responds.
for silent operation I suggest an external drive that can be powered and noisy on when needed.

No budget cap (my treat after a 5 year wait!). Planning for a 500 GB or 1TB SSD. Hdd will be a 1TB also. Slight reluctance for external drive because of the hassle of connecting it.
