HDD caddy, HDD, and Lenovo y400 compatibility

Hi everyone,

Brand new here so please forgive me if I broke any rules.

I own a Lenovo Y400 which has an ultrabay. This lets me easily pop out the disc drive.

I am hoping to replace the disc drive with a 2nd HDD and was looking at the following HDD caddy and SSHD:

I did some research (mostly from this website) and I think it should all work out. I believe my laptop is SATA2 and this new SSHD appears to be SATA 3, but read that isn't a big deal.

Any insight as to whether this caddy and SSHD would actually be compatible or recommended is much appreciated.

They should be OK. SATA 2 connection is OK for it too.

Do you have any suggestions of how best to optimize the storage space?
Do hybrid drives perform better than HDD? Does the brand or quality of the caddy affect the read speed of the HDD ?

With pc' we have a boot drive - SSD about 120GB for OS only or 240GB for OS plus games. SSD's load a lot quicker than HDD or SSHD.

Then we have a second 'data' drive eg 2TB.

I'm not sure with the Lenovo whether you can have two drives. If so, that'd be the way I'd go - like a pc.

But our HDDs are 3.5in and 7200rpm. Laptop HDDs are 2.5in and only 5400rpm. A fair bit slower than PC HDDs.

If I do go with this SSHD, will I need to do some crazy installation? Or can i just use the caddy, pop it in, and I'm good to go? My laptop currently has an SSHD (1TB + 16 GB).

Yep just pop it in. If you want it as your main drive you have to install windows on it. If not, just format it through Administrative Tools Disk Management.
