I have built a new computer about a month ago and have had no issues. I typically leave it running over night and this morning I woke up with the screen frozen during a CHKDSK (was running in win7 last night). v I have two HDD and two SSD.
I tried to restart the PC and it seemed to stuck on the Win 7 logo for quite awhile (later found out if I walk away maybe 30 mins? it will do a CHKDSK on the HDD).
After a ton of troubleshooting it was determined that the HDD that was doing the CHKDSK was the culprit. If I unplug the sata cable on that HDD win7 will boot up no problem. Win7 is installed on the SSD of course.
I have tried using different Sata cables, sata ports, unplugging pretty much everything, different power connection.... It will only not boot with this one HDD connected otherwise the system boots just fine. This particular HDD I formatted and have actually not used for anything at the moment so it has been pretty much unused for about a month.
Is this HDD just for some reason gone bad? I don't have another PC that I can throw it in to test it. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
