Question HDD connected to Computer by SATA to USB and is grayed out in Computer.

I have an old hard drive that I'm trying to get some files off of, and I connected to my newer computer with a SATA to USB cable, and it is showing up, but it is also grayed out and reads no space or storage used. I cannot access the files. I tried uninstalling it in device manager, connecting it to a different computer, and updating drivers. The old drive has Windows Vista on it, and my newer computers have Windows 10. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!

At this point it might be best to try a tool that is USB stick bootable. You can try the bootable version of our SeaTools utility to see if it spots the drive there.

What exactly is showing up? Are you seeing the USB-SATA bridge circuitry in the adapter, but not the drive behind the bridge? What does CrystalDiskInfo report about the drive?

Which drive do you have and which USB adapter do you have?
I suspect you are trying to run a 3.5" drive solely from USB power which usually isn't enough to run the drive. Or maybe the Drive power connector isn't attached at all.
