I have an HP 15b -168ca laptop that I've had to switch hard drives on because the bcd from the original hdd went missing after an auto restart for Windows updates (original hdd has windows 8.1 installed, current hdd has windows 7 installed). My end goal is to rebuild the bcd on the original hdd using cmd, but I've hit a bit of a roadblock. The orignal hdd, which is connected via a USB 3.0 to SATA adapter, is not detected by the OS. the hdd does spin up, which means that the adapter also works. The adapter is plugged directly into one of the USB ports on my laptop. The hdd is detected by the bios, but not the hdd. I've tried using the wmic logicaldisk get name command to no avail, as it only seems to detect the C:. thanks in advance if anyone can help me solve this.

That`s right just go to your device manager and it should be there otherwise the drive must be shot but I highly doubt that....
