Hi there, fairly new to posting but I've scouted some similar posts and I don't see any solutions fit for my problem.

Whats the situation? Well I recently built myself a new PC as a treat and I have both an SSD and a HDD.
Specs: ASUS M5A97 r2.0 EVO Mobo, WD 1TB 3.5 inch Internal Hard Drive - Caviar Blue, Kingston Technology 120GB Solid State Drive.

The problem? So In bios both the HDD and the SSD are found, the SSD is obviously the boot drive and has windows 8 installed ect. The HDD has nothing at all on it.

To note, the HDD did once show up in the drive manager, when I went to format and give the drive a name, windows (or the program doing the stuff) went unresponsive and i had to exit out of it. I believe this has caused the trouble.

The HDD does not show up anywhere but bios now.

Hey raimmortal. I'm sorry you're going through such trouble with your drive. Did you remember to disconnect the HDD before you installed Windows on the SSD? Also I'd recommend that you try connecting the drive either externally or internally to a different computer to see if the same thing happens. Then go ahead and download DLG (Data Lifeguard Diagnostic) and run both tests (Quick and Extended) to see if there are any issues with the drive itself: Data Lifeguard Diagnostic for Windows

Hope that helps. Let me know how everything goes.

Being the dumb person I am, I did in fact have the HDD in whilst doing the initial installation of windows with the SSD. I put the drive in another computer and it does in fact show up in disk management. What should I do from here?

Update 1: Also in drive management on the second pc it says the drive is healthy (GPT protective partition). Yet still no drive name allocated to it. I can't make, delete or change the partition on it

Update 2: I managed to wipe the drive using the second pc and cmd. I then put it back in the first pc and it shows up again. I again tried to make a partition but the disk management crashed again.

If it's not too much of a hassle, I'd suggest that you reinstall the OS with the SSD (only) connected to the computer. After that, connect the HDD and see if you are able to get it partitioned and formatted properly. You could also try to partition it with the other PC to see if it's recognized and if everything works fine after you connect it to the first PC.

Sorry for the best answer tag, that was a misclick on mobile.

As for reinstalling windows 8 on just the ssd, I did a clean install from scratch and then connected the hdd. Once I booted up windows with the hdd it wouldn't go past the windows screen. It sat on the windows logo for roughly 5-7 minutes before I grew impatient. I also tried booting it up and then connecting the hdd but drive manager wouldn't find anything.

The same happens on the other pc.

I think I've gone and broken it :/

It's OK, I've unselected it.

So your computer boots without any issues with just the SSD connected?
If this is the case and if you're having problems with the WD Blue drive on two different computers, then I'd recommend that you download DLG (from the link from my first post and test the drive) and connect the drive externally via a SATA to USB cable, or an external enclosure, or a docking station, to see if any errors pop-up after the tests.
