hdd drive mapping when disconnecting one of the HDDs

Hi,
I have few HDDs with multiple partitions. Each partition is mapped automatically by Windows 7.
If I disconnect one of the HDD's, the mapping changes, which can cause me problems with some software. Is it possible to attach a drive letter to each partition, which will be constant even if one of the drives is disconnected ?

As far as I know, you can only assign permanent drive letters to external storage devices.
