I recently built a pc and everything seems to be working okay but my wd 7200rpm 2 tb black just sparked on first time startup. I can see where it burnt.

My psu is a corsair ax860 and the hdd is running on its own cable. I have an ssd samsung 120 that is running its own cable and the dvd player is also running on its own sata cable.

The motherboard is an asus maximus vii hero, 2x8gb corsair vengeance for the ram, gtx 780i for the gpu, and intel 4790k for the cpu.

Any help on this matter would be very much appreciated.

The HDD failed, return it to where you bought it or contact WD for an RMA to warranty it.

Check the wiring on that sata power connector. Compare it to the good one. it wouldnt be the first time someone wired it wrong...

Otherwise, proceed with the install if all else seems to be working. You didnt want the HDD installed when you install windows anyways. :)

Would it spark if I installed it before I installed windows? I just used a second one with a new power connector and same thing happened (there was no burn hole this time but I heard internal damage).
