Hdd hangs when transfering files from SSD

My hdd secondary drive hangs in the middle of transfering files from my ssd boot drive and most of the time it freezes when i open the hdd drive after prolonged use. One time I opened up the computer and found out that the hdd had heated up. How do I fix this?
I am using Windows 10
Intel i3 skylake
8GB Corsair DDR4 RAM
MSI B150M PRO VD
Samsung 850 EVO 250 SSD
Seagate Barracuda 1.5 TB

Hi Notanothecarl,

I would advise you to install a software that measures the PC temperature. Search for the hard drive’s manual and check the normal working temperatures. It is possible that another component is overheating and it is causing heating up of the drive. Is the drive situated close to the graphic card (if you have a dedicated one)?

I strongly recommend you to backup all important data and to download the drive manufacturer’s diagnostic tool. Check the drive’s conditions.
