HDD Has a partition with no file system, but still has files.

Something happened to one of my 1TB HDD. The partition lost its file system, which was NTFS. I thought it had been formatted, but I scanned the drive, and saw that my files were still on it. I am too cheap to restore it, haha, but at least the files were still on there. I was wondering if it was possible to re-assign the NTFS file system to the partition without affecting the files.

Solution

Step 1. Copy those files to somewhere else, if you actually can.
Step 2. Verify those files actually exist, in full, on the target location.
Step 3. Now you are free to do whatever formatting is needed.

Ignore #1 & 2, and all bets are off.
