HDD is not working but its brand new can someone please help me.

Hi people, Iʻm brand new to this forums but I was hoping you guys could help me out, So I got a pc from my uncle but he said the HDD was broken and was beyond repair so I bought a new one w/ 1TB. However when I installed it, it still said the same thing it did with the broken HDD.

"Please Reboot and install proper boot system etc"

So I was wondering, why is it not working, its an SATA pc and I plugged in both the cords needed, the SATA cord and the power cord. I was looking online and it said something about needing to install a Operating system before it works. Can someone please help me?

Oh, alright,I donʻt have a windows install dvd but thank u, so Iʻll need to buy one. Thank you

Shop around the local places first before buying online -- you can get either an OEM copy (which will marry itself to that laptop) or a Retail copy (which can be "moved" from computer to computer). I'm being simplistic, so others can help finesse this.
