I am having issues with setting up my new computer. If I enable the VDM Controller, the M.2 Boot Drive is not available and I can't Boot. If I disable the PCI component in the VDM Controller, I can boot the computer with no problems. I also have three 4TB SATA drives on the MB SATA ports and want to set them up as a RAID array. When I do this, Windows 10 Pro can't find them in Disk Management. When they are not set up as RAID, they are visible and accessible.

I just updated the BIOS to the latest version today and still have the same issues. Is there any way to use the old Intel Rapid Storage Technology system to set up the RAID drives and still be able to boot from the M.2 Drive?

I had no issues with this type of setup on my old ASUS Z97 WiFi Pro motherboard, though I was booting from a Sandisk SSD set up on a SATA port. I can't do that on this motherboard unless I give up my Blu-Ray drive or one of the 4TB RAID Drives.

The M.2 drive is in M.2.1 and the SATA drives are in the 4 SATA plugs on the motherboard. One drive is a 1.5Tb and the other three are brand new 4tb drives. I am using the onboard graphics and a LSI Logic Controller Card LSI00301 SAS 9207-8i 8Port Internal SAS/SATA 6Gb/s PCI Express Single Card in the PCIEX16 (G5) Slot to pick up my BlueRay burner and a couple of extra SATA drives. I am running the Intel Core Ultra 9 285K Chip. In Device Manager, Intel RST VMD Controller is not listed.

I did run the Driver and Support Assistant and it said I only needed the Intel® Arc™ & Iris® Xe Graphics - Windows* Driver. In Device Manager under "Other Devices" Base System Device and Raid Controller as No Drivers installed (Code 28) There are no compatible drivers for this device. I am going to reboot and run Windows Update and see if it can find a driver for the Raid Controller and Base System Device. I am running Windows 10 Pro with the latest updates until today.

Its been a couple of months since I installed Windows on my Strix Z890-E so my memory's a little fuzzy. I remember loading the Intel Chipset driver and Intel also likes to have a Serial IO driver loaded. Perhaps its because I loaded the Intel Rapid Storage Technology Driver that my device manager shows the RST VMD controller. You could go to the ASUS support page and pretty much load the current version of everything on the page to see if it resolves your problem. You could probably try doing this temporarily without the card installed to see if you can get a full Device Manager and then put the card back in and see what happens then.

I finally got it working. I found a copy of the Intel Rapid Storage Driver and installed it and everything now is available. Now all I need to do is transfer all the files to the Raid drive and start installing all my old programs and then sometime this fall downgrade to Windows 11 Pro.
