Question HDD keeps spiking to 100%

When I'm browsing and when I shut down the computer, my HDD seems to spike to 100% for a 5-8 seconds before going back down to 1-5% again. I'm not sure why this is happening, it only started to happen after I had started to play a heavily modded video game (TES Oblivion) which was like a week ago. Even when I'm not playing games and just browsing, it still seems to occur.

Web browsing causes storage drive activity all the time either because cookies are being created/updated, data gets temporarily saved, etc.

Right but it's still unusual for my HDD to spike up to 100% when it's never done it before whilst browsing, I'm assuming it happens with old age over time. Everything is due for an upgrade anyway.

Thanks, it's scheduled to defrag on a weekly basis but I'll do it manually. It's a pretty old HDD and everything is due for upgrade anyway. Getting an SSD was my plan B.
