HDD light flickering/flashing?

Hello, is it normal for the HDD light on my case to constantly flash? If so, is there a way to disable it? It is kind of irritating xD

I just upgraded my CPU and motherboard and installed a secondary HDD (Intel Core i5-3570k and MSI Z77A-G45 motherboard), and it just started happening.

I have read that it is the hard drive failing, bad sectors, or that the hard drive is simply reading/writing files. I would just like some insight to the reason it is flashing, so I know it's not an issue with the hard drive or something. Thanks!

its meant to do it--it is simply reading/writing files

edit -- you can just disconnect the hdd led connector to stop it if you want

The light shows drive activity, simply disconnect the LED if you do not like it. It serves no functional purpose.
