Hello,

(Sorry about my grammar)

I've bought a new cooler, SSD and a cabinet case.

So, I've migrated from old case to new, installed windows 7 on SSD and formatted the windows partition on HDD and everything was working fine yesterday until night.

Today I wokeup and notice that PC took more than 10mins to boot to show up "Checking disk at C and others(something like this)"

I cancelled the check and it took awhile to show the windows screen, when I goto my computer and try to open the previous windows partition, PC stopped responding, so I had to restart and let it check disk this time, it took a very long time and stuck at some place.

After booting and letting the HDD to load, when I open the file partition folder and try to copy to take backup, it stops responding again.

So I've disabled the check disk and trying to on, it's still same, if I try to open hard disk partitions, it stops responding and tooks hours to shut down.

So tried disconnecting HDD and it's working fine, thought SATA cable might stopped working. So bought a new one and tried. it's still same.

but if I disconnect HDD and run on only SDD, it's fast and running.

Please help

Hi there DaddyCool1,

It will not hurt to attach the HDD to another SATA port as well.
If the issue persists though, your HDD may be failing. As you are having troubles booting with the HDD attached, then you can connect it externally after your system has already loaded. Check whether you will be able to access the data on the drive. You may need to use some data recovery tools as well. After you back up the data that is stored on the drive, you can test it with a brand specific testing tool. The results will eventually show you what is wrong with it.

Hope this will help,

Tried on different SATA port, but no luck.

I think it's failing.

I don't know how to connect externally, but when I try to connect directly and let it load, it loads and show after a while but when I try to copy and paste the data on SSD, it stops responding.

Does this mean this HDD is about to die and I need to take the backup as soon as possible and store it in new HDD?

Yeah it is most probably failing. As you system boots up(even though slowly), there is no need to connect it externally.
You need to backup the data as soon as possible. Though, as the system stops responding, I guess you should try recovering the data with some third party tools.

Thanks for trying to help me, I have 2 more questions. I hope you won't mind :)

1. I'll buy a new HDD tomorrow, my doubt is that will my HDD is still safe to take backup from and restore it in new HDD? as I can see that when it's connected to PC and I wait for a while for it to load, it loads all the partitions and folders, but stops responding for long only when I try to copy the folder from HDD and paste in SSD or Pen Drive.

2. I've bought this HDD on 9th March 2013 and I got a damaged peice and it was replaced on 23rd March 2015.
when I warranty check on WD website, it says "Out of limited warranty" and expired on "1/19/2015"

I thought the warranty is until 3 years? Even if 2, why it expired on 1/19/2015?

My HDD S/N WMC1U5547727 and I'm from india.

Thank you for everything.

Regarding the warranty part, I would advise you to contact WD's Support either by e-mail or by phone: http://products.wdc.com/support/kb.ashx?id=vHOIsV
Regarding your first question, I guess you can try cloning the drive on another one. You are talking about cloning right? As I mentioned in my previous comment, you can try scanning the drive with a data recovery tool, and see whether you will be able to save some of it on the SSD lets say.

Usually, how many years of warranty does WD give?
