Question HDD not found by Windows

Hello,

Was hoping to get a bit of help with this problem. I've got a HDD that I use for storage (got Windows 10 installed on a SSD) that's not being picked up. I've checked all cables and made sure they're connected properly.

Any solutions for this?

windows 10? check device manager? storage spaces? disk management?

Does the BIOS see the HDD at POST (you also can enter the BIOS to verify)?

Well, there can be 2 scenarios:

• Your Drive is attached, but undetected or unreadable.

There might be chances that your drive is having an unsupported file system or it may have bad sectors.
In this scenario,

• Right click on “This PC”, select Manage.
• Then, in the dialogue box that opens, Select Disk Management from the left side panel (last option).

There, look below the white portion, you will find a representation of the Disks connected. If it is shown in there.

• Right Click on your SSD, Format the drive and assign a drive letter to it.

Then wait a few seconds and it will be shown in the Drives panel.

• Your drive may not attached properly.

Check your connections in this case. When shown in Disk Management, follow the above procedure.

Hi sorry about the late reply,

I tried hitting format on my SSD but it's greyed out. I checked all the cables on my HDD again and even switched out a couple of the cables just to be sure. Nothing so far.

As @rgd1101 asks, does the HDD show up in Disk Management? If so, what is it's status? If not, have you tried other SATA ports?
