hdd not recognised by compute

my hdd used to work fine but now it says device is not properly installed.the light on my hdd is blinking but nothing shows up on my computer...
please help....

Actually, I will try to run Spinrite overnight to see if that helps. Although I'm concerned that it also might not be able to always detect the drive... so that will be interesting to see.
