HDD not recognised despite shown in BIOS and Device Manager

Hi Guys,

I just build my first PC and having some issues getting Windows to recognise my HDD - a Seagate Barracuda 2TB.

I am booting from an SSD which is in Sata 2. I have the HDD plugged into Sata 4.

Bios can see the drive but it doesn't list it in the Boot Priority list, just in the Sata connection area.

I cannot see the drive in the Disk Management area of windows to create a drive name.

Any thoughts? I understand it shouldnt matter which SATA port I use...

I have tried changing the SATA port and SATA cable but neither has made a difference.

What's interesting is that the disk is showing in the Device Manager as a Disk Drive but not in DIsk Management.

Device Manager tells me it has the most up to date driver available.

I have tried downloading Seagate's diagnostic software, both DiskWizard and SeaTools, but neither recognise the drive.

I am really stuck here... anyone able to help?

Hi, Try with an Windows installation disk. If not detected there either, I'd RMA it.

Hi, sorry but what do you mean by that? With a Windows Installation disk?

When trying to install Windows from a disk or USB drive it gives you the possibility to format the drive. See if listed there. You can also try using diskpart https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/85819-erase-disk-using-diskpart-clean-command-windows-10-a.html
My guess is that the best option would be RMA-ing it.

if the tools for the hard drive do not recognize the drive and if you launch windows install and it doesn't see the drive either, but you can see it in bios, then I would return/exchange the drive.
