Hiyo,

My Simpletech HDD isn't being recognized on my laptop. I know it's a common problem and I've already looked through existing threads and tried many proposed solutions. I'd appreciate any help with this.

I'm running Windows 7 Home, SP1

What I've tried:
- looking for the HDD in disk & device manager (no go, even in safe mode)
- changing USB cable
- tried all the USB ports
- uninstalled/reinstalled USB drivers

I don't have access to another machine I can connect the HDD to. But it's on and humming away, so I think it works. It's not a new device and I've had no problems with it in the past.

Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

Hi

To test the drive or PC USB ports
you need either another PC or another USB hard drive to find where the problem lies

If the USB disk case is easily opened you can find out if hard disk has a standard USB data & power connector and be tested in a desktop PC or a different USB case

Or if the USB to sata chips are integrated onto the hard disk controller circuit board which makes it very difficult to repair if faulty.

Note do not open case if still under manufacturers guarantee
