Hi, bought new PC that i put together on my own. Everything seems to work correctly but i just cant see my HDD , although its visible in device manager. My main disk is an SSD with windows 8 (first time i use windows 8 so maybe i have to configure it somehow ?) or maybe i have to format it and/or partition it before its ready to use? i can see the disk in my device manager it just doesnt show how much space it got etc.
I used one sata 6gb/s to connect it to motherboard and one more cable to connect it to PSU (i tried with 3gb sata too but still the same)

oh i am an idiot i think i see the disk now...although 50gb less than it is.... i have to do "initiate disk" ? and then what it has 2 options
1 MBR (master boot record)
2 GPT (guide partition table)

Choose GPT.

Also, the 50GB you think is missing is not really unusual, it has to do with the way that HDD manufacturers define storage v. computers:

HDD manufacturers: "giga" byte = 1 billion (1,000,000,000) bytes
Computers: "gigabyte" = 1024 megabyte = 1,048,576 kilobyte = 1,073,741,824 bytes

750 gigabytes = 750 billion bytes to the HDD manufacturer
750,000,000,000 bytes = 698.49GB to your system.

The WD you have is a 2.5" NAS drive. They are not something you normally put in a desktop PC. They are not a performance drive they are more for back-ups where they are access once in a while to backup data to. I would get a WD 1TB Blue drive it should be cheaper and perform better. However it you want to use it you need to load your administrative tool and go into disk management. For windows 8 you need to pull up the run comand line and type in COMPMGMT.MSC. Look in the storage section and select disk management. Select the disk there you can partition it and format then it should be useable.

hmm ok i think i made it work now...on a side note from what you say i think i failed miserably in choosing my HDD... i wanted a second drive to have my music and alot games that i dont want to put on SSD... should i try to contact my shop to check if can exchange that disk with another one?

I'd recommend a Western Digital Caviar Blue WD10EZEX 1TB 7200RPM SATA 3 model. I don't know if you can return the other model if you've installed it and formatted it.

the local shop will credit me for like 70-80% of the price so i can change it....however they dont have 1tb caviar blue they have
WESTERN DIGITAL WD5000AAKX 500GB CAVIAR BLUE SATA3 (prblly the same just 500gb?)
then this one in about the same price range SEAGATE ST1000DM003 1TB BARRACUDA 7200.14 SATA3

links in case it helps: http://www.e-shop.gr/seagate-st1000dm003-1tb-barracuda-720014-sata3-p-PER.301911
http://www.e-shop.gr/western-digital-wd5000aakx-500gb-caviar-blue-sata3-p-PER.303647

i think 500gb would be enough for now...but if it is not significantly faster then i maybe i should get the 1tb, or wait untill they bring 1 tb caviar blue? thoughts?
