I have 4 storage device. 1*128GB SSD(2 month). 1*2TB HDD (1.5 year old) and 2*1TB HDD (3 year old). Windows is installed in the SSD. The problem is, usually after booting every drive works fine but after a long time when all the drives are in idle, if i open a file from a hard drive it takes time to working. But then it works just fine. I want all the drives active all the time. How can i do that?

Solution
Clean the SATA ports and Change the cables and check if you see any improvement

If no luck, then try the below

Install any HDD performance checking tool and get the number for Read/Write etc

Once you get benmarking results, we can look further if issue not resolved

Your drives are sleeping or spinning down.

If your drives are set to spin down when idle then you will constantly encounter this issue.

You will also encounter this is you have those crappy WD Green drives that auto spin down no matter what setting you put them to.

Hi there shuvonaz,

I would agree with Ravi Sankar and say that you need to attach the drives with different SATA and power cables to a different SATA port.
In case the issue persists, you can test them with one of these: http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/282651-32-best-diagnostic-testing-utility
It would be nice if you provide a screenshot of the SMART report.

You can check your power management options as well: http://www.thewindowsclub.com/prevent-hard-drive-going-sleep-windows
