I'm planning on getting a new laptop. And I'm torn between getting 16GB of RAM with a HDD. Or 8GB of RAM with a SATA SSD. As I can only afford one or the other, which would provide the best performance if any?

For the most part, school work. But then I would also like to use if for relatively intensive, modern games aswell.

Yup, 8gb with an ssd. School work doesnt take a lot of hard drive space, and most sdd's can hold a good amount of triple A games. Plus I doubt you're gonna run a lot of programs to utilize all 8gb of RAM at once.
