HDD Problems

Hello, I've been having problems with hard drives on my gaming pc and need help. Several months ago I shut my pc down for the night, and the next day it wouldn't boot. I took it somewhere and they told me the hard drive was fried. It was a Seagate 2TB 7200rpm SATAIII. I got another of the exact same HD warranty replaced and it ran perfectly fine for a few months until I started randomly getting blue screens for around a week, then it shut down and wouldnt boot. I replaced the HD again this time with an older WD 250g SATAII I had in an older machine. Again it worked fine for around a week this time then same thing happened. What could be causing my pc to be eating hard drives like this? One thing I did notice during removal of the 3rd HD was the PSU has 2 4-pin connectors that go side-by-side in the 8-pin slot on my mobo, but only one of the 4pin connectors was plugged in. Ive tried researching to see if this could be the cause of the problem, but I cant find anything specific to my issue.

some specs:
mobo - Gigabyte GA-x79-UD3
PSU - eXtreme Gear 700w ATX 12v 2.2

That's really odd .... I don't think it's a hardware problem but mostly a Operating System problem. How frequently do you defragment your system ? Do you clean your system every month ? Tell me what you do on your computer on a everyday usage (don't tell me porno) and i will see what i can do.

Well even if one doesnt defrag at all, it shouldnt die in a few weeks. What are your temps? High temps kill HD

Wasn't sure 'bout the temps one but i don't think something around 45-50c would kill the hdd in a month. And the weirdest thing is that they all die when he shut down innapropriately ...

The first hd was defragged often enough I would think, maybe once every 3-4 weeks. The other 2 didn't last that long. I openned the case and cleaned it out about every 2 weeks. This system is really only used for gaming and minimal browsing, mostly black ops 2 and sc2. I don't think heat is the issue, its liquid cooled and has 1 200mm fan along with 3 other 120mm fans. The highest temp I've seen it run is 84f during gameplay, usually around 76f when not playing.

Ok so i guess i will need your FULL pc specs if possible because i don't think your motherboard is causing trouble to the hdd. I just seen that your power supply is eXtreme Gear ? Replace it ASAP ... I can't even find it on google so it might not be 80plus certified and could be causing instability to your system.

HDD : Seagate 2TB SATAIII 7200rpm (will not boot, nor let me format)

Video : GTX 550 Ti
Disc Drive : LG UH12LS28K 12X Blu-Ray Player & DVDRW Combo Drive
Cooling : Asetek 510LC Liquid Cooling System 120mm Radiator & Fan
Sound : onboard
Network : onboard
OS : Windows 7 Home Premium

I was thinking the psu might be the root of the problem so I ordered a Corsair HX750 to replace the eXtreme Gear. Some friends who know better than I have also mentioned how bad that power supply is, my only doubt was that I have another system with all the exact same internal set up that has undergone 3-4 times the usage as this one over the same course of time and has not had a single issue yet.
