Question HDD regular freezes after PC upgrade

Hey everybody! I've often found help by browsing this forum but now I have a problem I'd love to get some input on.

I have a WD Blue 6TB HDD in my computer, mostly for movies, music, older games, photos, etc.
A couple of weeks ago I upgraded my motherboard + CPU + RAM and made a clean Win11 install. And ever since then my HDD is acting weird... it usually initially works perfectly for a while - sometimes for 1 hour, sometimes for many hours - and then I get temporary freezes. Like this: I watch something on VLC or play a game that's on the HDD, suddenly the playback / game freezes, explorer stops reacting to any requests (like going into subfolders of the HDD, viewing properties of files etc.), sometimes the whole drive completely disappears in the explorer (but most of the time it's still there). Those freezes last for about 10-20secs, and thereafter everything works fine again just like before. This lasts for another while - but now sometimes for only a couple of minutes (so I have a lot of freezes in a short time), sometimes it works again for an hour or so. Until the next freeze and so on.

I checked / tried the following to no avail:
- neither CrystalDiskInfo nor chkdsk nor WD tools indicate any problems to me
- HDD firmware up to date
- "turn off hard disk after..." is disabled in power plan (set to 0 minutes)
- tried different SATA cable and SATA port
- HDD temps are fine, constantly around 30°C
- tried a tool that constantly writes something to the drive to keep it awake
- all the other drives (all SSDs) are working fine

What could it be? Could this simply be an indication that the drive is about to die? But then why did the problems start right after my Mobo upgrade - coincidence? That's why I'm thinking it's some sort of sleep / power saving issue but idk where else to look. A 6TB HDD is currently about 150€, I'd rather not spend that to replace a drive that's not really broken...
Did not find many similar problem reports either, where the drive is working fine initially and the freezes occur with a delay...

Specs:
HDD WDC WD60EZAZ-00SF3B0 : 6001,1 GB
5400RPM, ran 7207 hours, turned on 1640 times, Firmware 80.00A80

Any ideas are greatly appreciated! 😊

Welcome to the forums, newcomer!

BIOS version on your motherboard at this moment of time?

neither CrystalDiskInfo nor chkdsk nor WD tools indicate any problems to me
You should be fine.

PSU Seasonic Focus GX 750W
How old is the PSU in your build?

A 6TB HDD is currently about 150€, I'd rather not spend that to replace a drive that's not really broken...
If the data on it is not valuable, you can disregard anything you hear off the drive or experience the delays.

Thanks so much for the help! 🤗

BIOS version on your motherboard at this moment of time?
it was E7D75AMS.1C0 from 12/08/2023, just updated it to current version 7D75v1E from 21/02/2024, will see if that changes anything.

How old is the PSU in your build?
from 12/2021, so 2 years 2 months.

If the data on it is not valuable, you can disregard anything you hear off the drive or experience the delays.
I do regular backups.

So you think it might be the fault of the drive?
