Hello there,

i m building my new workstation, i bought everything except the Hard drive. My Asrock Trx40 Taichi as motherboard, and i would like to have 3 hard drive :

  1. One for windows and my 3D softwares (i guess i should go for a NVME like the samsung pro 1TB right ? )
  2. One for my 3D project libraries (aka, the folders i create for each client when i have to work) i need 2TB for that
  3. One for dowloads / some videogames / music /less important software etc etc (i guess i should have a normal SSD samsung EVO 860 for that right ?

the question is, what do you suggest to buy for the Hard drive number 2 ? is a NVME a wise choice ? I need an hard drive that could last the longer possible because it will be a real disaster if i lose my job files. For the last 7 years i had my 2TB SATA and he is still doing a good job!

thank you and sorry for my english!

Marco

Solution
  1. Samsung 970 EVO. Pro not really needed
  2. Either 860 EVO or another 970 EVO
  3. Anything.

it will be a real disaster if i lose my job files
Loss of a drive should NEVER involve loss of data. Ever.

This is why we have backups.

With a 4 TB external drive costing but $70-90 these days, you could back up everything via Macrium Reflect periodically.

If your mainboard supports at least a pair of NVME drives, I'd get a second one perhaps 2 TB in size for working space, as 970 EVO and similar are often at attractive prices on sale.
