HDD Stuck In HP Pavilion 6570B

Hi everyone,

We're trying to replace the hard drive in an HP 6570 B. We have already done this for one laptop and it was a very simple process. However, the other is proving a nightmare.

From the first image, you should see that we have followed the instructions and I included a second image. We have loosened the two screws on the front and the third screw on the back. However, we now just cannot pull it back and actually take it out and we have broken the tab in the process of doing it. We are wary of doing anything that might break the connectors and make it unusable. Any suggestions regarding what could still be holding it in or anything else to try to get it out?

From the looks of things, you should be removing the screws circled


1, 1 & 2 as per the label.

Then it should slide out. The screws you've loosed/removed are holding the drive in the enclosure, not the enclosure in the laptop.

Apologies I don't think my image was clear enough. They are spring loaded screws that have been loosened and pulled up as per the instructions. However, it seems like something else is still holding it down.

Stock, there shouldn't be. Those 3 screws should remove right out.

Jonathan, you posted that you resolved the issue without actually posting how you managed to resolve the issue, which just amounts to useless clutter on the internet. People google things for answers, just as you no doubt did for this specific issue. The least you could do is give details as to how you solved the issue so that anyone in the future with your same issue is able to fix it.

As for me, I managed to finally get the dang hard drive out, and it required brute force with a grip/pliers - see attached image. I grabbed the single screw housing on the left side of the hard drive and basically just wiggled the drive until it came free. It mangled the screw housing but it's nothing that can't be bent back into place if one desired to reuse it, but I really didn't care since I'm just planning on wiping this drive and recycling it. The frustrating thing is I still don't even know where the drive was getting stuck at. There doesn't appear to be any broken plastic anywhere. Could the hard drive really have been fused to the connector? That's really my best guess.
