HDD to SSD file carryover to a new PC

So i just built a new computer and i got an 256GB SSD and installed fresh windows on it. From my old PC i have 1TB HDD which also had Windows on it plus alot of data that id like to keep. My question is can i just plug in the old HDD in my new PC and copy over some files to my SSD and only then format the HDD or do i have to format the HDD before i can use it in the new PC?

Hi Zejanis,

Yes, you will be able to directly hook up the old HDD and transfer your files off before needing to reformat. Just make sure your SSD is the first drive in your BIOS boot order, as you don't want to be booting into the HDD on startup.
