Hi Guys,
So tomorrow I am getting an SSD, and I plan to make it run my OS, Chrome, a game, skype and all my drivers and steam.
I have a few questions;
1. How to rid my HDD from all windows files?
2. Can I keep all the games on that drive and run steam off my SSD, and then have it locate the games on the HDD, or will the games need a fresh install?
3. Would you recommend a transfer device which moves the OS to the SSD or a fresh install onto the SSD?

Also, when the HDD is unplugged, and the SSD plugged in, will the windows installation find the SSD no problems?

1. Format it / Do a quick format. Obviously you'll have to do it, once Windows is on the SSD.

And you connect the hdd after.

2. Have no idea, I dont use Steam

3. Depends what the SSD is. Some maker's have their own software. That you can use to clone or whatever you call it from a hdd to an SSD

Cant see why the windows install wouldn't find the SSD. Unless it's not connected properly. or it's faulty

Just make sure the SSD is big enough for whatever you're going to install on it. Otherwise you'll run out of space

I used a back up CD to install windows from my HDD to my SSD, you can also make use of a memory stick apparently, check out the link

If you have windows 10

Just remember to download this tool

If you are buying a Samsung SSD, there is a program that comes with it data migration and you can use it to install windows from your HDD to SSD

Yes, you can, just uninstall steam, download it again and follow instructions when installing, I run my games from steam from my secondary SSD (use to be on a HDD)

Yes, windows will read the SSD

EDIT: Try to avoid 3rd party software to move windows, it will have to stay there once the move is completed (you cannot uninstall it)
