HDD vs Dual Layer DVD in Storage

Dual Layer DVD would be my media of choice provided you store them in a safe place in jewel cases. They will not have the inherent disadvantage of a hard drive which is that they all fail sooner or later unless you store the hard drive away and never read from or write to it again - - totally impractical and pointless.

There is just one possible "gotcha" with dual layer media though. You'll only be able to read them on a dual layer compatible drive so, unlike a regular single layer DVD-R, you can't just stick a DVD-DL in to any old computer's DVD drive.
