hdd vs external disc

Solution
You can't really be sure whether the power issue damaged the drive in some way or it has already been unhealthy. Just test it with some of the tools I've provided and examine the S.M.A.R.T. report.

External and internal disk behave exactly the same. Deleted data is erased from a index then over written later. With the right tools and good amount of "know how" you can return deleted data from either an external or internal disk. The only exception is that data that is "securely" erased. Usually this means that the data is deleted from the "index" then the sectors containing the data are immediately written over.

As for reliability I have had far better luck with internal disk as oppose to external disk. My theory being that with a decent case, internal hard drives are better cooled

i have bought today transcend 25m3 2tb and used it 5 hours to transfer 500gb data from hdd. then i looked in hard drive inspector that reliability is 84 procent and spin up time is about 70-80. is this problem?

Hi there garov,

Was the drive attached to a port that supports USB 3.0?
You can test the drive with some of these tools: http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/282651-32-best-diagnostic-testing-utility
Look for pending/reallocated sectors. In case there are some, you will need to contact the place where you got the HDD form.

Apart from that, I would say that internal drives tend to be more reliable.

yes. i forget to tell that when external disc was working, power has shut down.
