HDD vs SSD. Not concerned with boot up times.

My HD is failing and I need to buy a new HD. I have an Asus K42J laptop from 2010. I can't find reliable info on whether it's Sata I or Sata II. (2.4GHz Core i5 first gen / 4GB RAM)

My laptop is always on or in sleep, so I'm not concerned with boot up times, but with actual use of the laptop.

I'm a semi-power user, that is I'm often using Sony Vegas / tons of Chrome tabs open / PhotoShop. I'm often waiting "forever" for apps to switch / shut down / open.

So my question is should I see a significant difference with SSD? I'm considering a budget one 500 read / 250 write. And again, not sure if I have Sata or Sata II.

Thanks for any replies.

If you aren't sure what SATA revision you have then I would suggest just going for a HDD. A decent HDD will give you acceptable open times - if your HDD was failing then it will be slower.
