HDD WD Green 1TB Click Sound Problem

I came home from work to find that my HDD 1TB WD Green Caviar making a clicking sound after boot, this is the drive for storing my files, I am able to boot into my PC normally using the main HDD, but the WD Green drive is not able to load in MY Computer, it freezes if I double click the letter drive shown, but my hard drive name is not shown, only the drive letter. I also cant access Disk Management to check the HDD status, could this be a problem regarding the platter head crashing? Some suggested that freezing the hard drive might work, but could anyone vouch for this? I don't want to make it worst. Please help me, I need those files inside as I didnt make any backups. Thanks

I'm sorry to say that your hard drive is dead. This is the "Click of Death". I've been in the sales and service of computers for the last 20+ years and every time you hear this click you can be reset assures it is dead. What you are actually hearing is the drive head (arm) slapping the side of the case.

I'm very sorry for your loss.

The drive is dead. Replace it and restore the files from backup.

I'm sorry to hear about your WD Green failing on you! 🙁 I'd definitely NOT advise you to freeze the HDD or tamper with it. The Clicking sounds indicate internal, hardware failure, so it's highly unlikely that you'd be able to fix it. Moreover, freezing it would void the warranty. Your best bet on getting your files back is a professional Data Recovery Company. Everything else could potentially do more harm, than good! You should check the warranty on the WD Green. If it's still covered, you should be able to send an RMA request to our Customer Support and get a replacement.
