Question HDD wiping affecting it's health

I have recently tested one of my old HDDs and it was in good health so I decided to sell it(

). After testing it I completely wiped it( covering each bit with 0) and now the guy who bought it says that it is at 10% health. Does wiping affect it's health?

Did you have the smart data from just after you wiped it?

Also notice that that the image shows an unregistered version of an unknown software (please pay, it says). So what is that - maybe he have to pay for the software for it to report the disk as good?

I'd ask the buyer at least to provide full details on smart data before consider it being a real claim. And also ask the seller to use a reputable software (like crystaldisk or some Ubuntu based live-cd distro - that also have ability to read smart values from disks).

Bottm line : Right now, you don't know if the buyer get errors because of the disk are really in bad condition of if he is using a fraudulent app that need you to pay to "fix any errors".
