HDMI 1.4b for 120hz Monitor?

How can I do it or is it even possible to do it! Please help me with a detailed answer whether you can do it or not! I've been reading for quite a while now and to no avail still no definite answer, a lot of people is saying that yes HDMI cable can run 120hz monitor but how did you do it? By cable? or by adapter? And also I am running a laptop with GT650M which I believe can support HD display and the HDMI port is 1.4b.

You are correct. In fact, any 1.4, 1.4a or 1.4b and all 2.0 HDMI devices fully support 1920x1080@120Hz. It is part of the base 1.4 standard.

To use it, you need a 120Hz monitor with an HDMI 1.4 or later port, and a good quality HDMI cable.

Hook up the two, and then in Windows, right click on the desktop, select Screen Resolution from the popup menu, and then On the next screen, over on the lower right, click on Advanced Settings, and on the next window, there is a button labeled List All Modes. From that list, pick the 1920 by 1080, True Color (32 Bit), 120 hertz choice.

And then click OK, Apply, OK and OK. And you should be done.

Yup I have an 144hz Asus Monitor but I still cant get the 120hz! Tried it with HDMI with HDMI connection but still at 60hz so I conclude that the monitor does not support HDMI 1.4. And then I hook it up with HDMI to Dual Link DVI-D Connector but still max refresh rate is 60Hz, So for that I assumed that whether the HDMI cable is not 1.4 or because of the connector itself has low output because it is just an mix connector anyway. So Anymore advice there? How about Displayport? HDMI to Displayport? do you think it is still the same results? Ive been reading about ACTIVE ADAPTERS? is it true that it will work?

Well, if the monitor does not have HDMI 1.4 or later, then nothing you do is going to work. Its kind of like trying to make a square peg fit into a round hole...

Now if the monitor had DP, then it would all work. DisplayPort has had the bandwidth to do that since 2009.

The only other idea that I have is something I think you have probably done 100 times. Make sure windows sees the monitor as the model it really is. I would also check to see if Asus has updated definition files for Windows available. I cant see what you saw in the List All Modes button that I had you click earlier... Did it show 120Hz at all?

Well the monitor have DP that's for sure but my LAPTOP has only VGA and HDMI port only that's the real problem.

Well the max refresh rate I can see using HDMI ( laptop )to HDMI ( monitor ) and HDMI ( laptop ) to Dual Link DVI-D Adapter ( monitor ) is 75Hz Refresh Rate for low setting ( 1280 x 1024 ) if I remember correctly.

Is There someone there who successfully connected an HDMI Cable to a 144hz Monitor and successfully achieve 120hz on it? Please tell me how and what did you do?
