HDMI 2.0 on a gtx 1060. Why?

So I was looking into 1060 cards, and maybe came across a redundancy. Some 1060s have HDMI 2.0, but 1060s are really not great with 4K resolution. Is there another reason to invest in a slightly more expensive card that has the capability? Also, what would other uses be for the 2.0 if games are a bit out of the question?

There's a couple of things going on with HDMI 2.0 that I discovered on the RX 480 that probably applies to the GTX 1060 also.

1) You can play PC games @ 60hz on any 4K TV with this output port. I assume this is very good up-scaling. The display is impressive.

2) A select group of games will also play native 4K games at 60hz with settings reduced. In my case I can play Hitman and some others at medium settings with an RX 480 8GB.

Not sure what you are asking here, HDMI 2.0 specs were out 3 years ago, are you saying it's too good of a spec or it should be newer? What's the point of using an older standard even if you can't get all the benefit from it vs something modern? It's like asking why would I buy a car with a 200 hp engine that can drive 140 mph when the speed limit is only 65? You can just get a car with 60 hp that can drive at 65 and that's all you need, what's with all that extra power?

Yeah, I should have elaborated a little better. So I ran into a couple different cards. The first was about $30 cheaper and didn't have HDMI 2.0 (as far as I can tell). http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814127965&nm_mc=AFC-C8Junction&cm_mmc=AFC-C8Junction-Veeralava%20LLC-_-na-_-na-_-na&cm_sp=&AID=10446076&PID=6202798&SID=

There are other features in the more expensive card than just HDMI 2.0, but it still echoed the idea that 2.0 had a premium.

After hearing that 1060's didn't push 4k (wrt gaming) all that well, I wondered if there was something I was missing as to why you'd invest in the option to have it. To use the car metaphor, it seemed like having a 200hp engine when the only tires you could put on the car wouldn't support faster acceleration, so why pay more for the engine. However, if 2.0 is standard equipment then I wouldn't have questions, especially after realizing there were applications outside of gaming I wasn't considering at the time.

I responded to another post here about not seeing some cards with the 2.0 option. This is the card I was looking at: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814127965&nm_mc=AFC-C8Junction&cm_mmc=AFC-C8Junction-Veeralava%20LLC-_-na-_-na-_-na&cm_sp=&AID=10446076&PID=6202798&SID=

Ahh, so 2.0 is standard now? If so, I have no issues 'tall. I saw more expensive cards that explicitly listed 2.0, so I was gauging that premium.

For instance, knowing it does push 1080 to 120hz is a reason it makes sense if you're never running 4k, in gaming or otherwise.

So, long winded "thanks" : P

I'm pretty certain all those what do no specific what HDMI version it uses, still use HDMI 2.0. It should be standard in all 1060's.

Gotcha, gotcha. Thanks for that!
