HDMI @ 2560 x 1440 ?

Just put together a new rig and when I hook it up via HDMI I get no signal, even at 50hz. It has no issue using DP, but I have my main rig hooked up to that port so I only have HDMI available.

The monitor has 2 x HDMI 1.4, I believe this is sufficient to run at 2560 x 1440 or was the max res for 1.4 2560 x 1080 ?

GPU is an Asus GTX-670 strix 2gb.

I tried both HDMI and DVI-HDMI cables same result.

It won't even do 1360 x 768. It appears that no resolution works through the HDMI.

Out of curiosity I hooked up my ancient 775 rig which has a GTX-560 with the same cable and it works fine @ 1080p 60hz.

I find it hard to believe both ports on the 670 just suddenly stopped working, And as evidenced by multiple machines the port on the monitor works also.

Well, I think that's the problem, though. If the cable & monitor work with your LGA 775-based rig, then the cable & monitor are OK...so that leaves the problem with your current system.

Now, the next step I would recommend is either a) put your GTX 670 into your older system, or b) put your GTX 560 into your current system. The reason is that you've already proven the cable & the monitor aren't the problem, & you know that the GTX 560 works just fine. You just need to isolate if it's a problem with the GTX 670 itself (which is tested with option A), or if it's something in your system itself (option B).

Try option A first. If the GTX 670 doesn't work, you know it's the 670 causing the problem, & you need a new GPU. If it works, then put the 560 in your current system & test it.

I'm not sure I follow you.

You mean the monitor settings ? I did go through all possible settings on the monitor itself, but found nothing interesting. Anything in particular I should be looking for ?

I haven't touched anything in windows or NVCP and it's a fresh windows 7 install on a totally new system with the exception of the 670 being slightly used from my older rig.

This build is on a Krait gaming x3 with which I have no experience with. Even the z170 chipset is new to me. As unlikely as it sounds, I wonder if there's a bios setting hampering the HDMI ?

Yeah man, I'll give it a whirl.

I just didn't think it was possible or even probable that a once fine card could drop both the HDMI and DVI but the DP works fine. Doesn't make sense to me, but I'll try swapping out the cards. Cheers.

Display settings, it could be that windows just thinks that the second screen shouldn't be doing anything, cycle through Win+P

Okay, just swapped out the cards and the 560 works fine and it's even supporting 2560x 1080 @60hz.

I still find it hard to believe the 670 is faulty. I mean it never had any issues in my old rig and it ran solidly. All that has changed is that it has gone from that old machine to my new one, it doesn't add up.

I still am inclined to believe this mobo is not letting the 670 do it's HDMI thing. All 3 ports are doing nothing whereas the DP port is fine and dandy.

I'll have a search around if anyone has had similar problems with this board as I'm still not convinced the 670 suddenly dropped 3 of it's 4 ports.

A truer test will be if the 670 runs in the old rig. Will test this now.

Well I couldn't get the old rig to POST with the 670 in there, but in all honestly I didn't expect it to work in that old PCIE 2.0 slot.

I'm quite flabbergasted right now. I have a GTX 670 that only works in DP mode. Now I just need a monitor with multiple DP's.

I'm not done testing the 670 though. It's going into my main rig tomorrow, I just CBA'ed pilfering the cards from it right now but will update thread if I find anything useful.

Thanks guys for the help!

Agreed, that GPU should have worked just fine in a PCIe 2.0 slot. But that could have been maybe a power issue, if the old system's PSU didn't have enough juice for it.

Your motherboard, however, is not going to affect the ports on the GPU. The only effect the motherboard has on the GPU is to provide a way for the GPU to interface with the rest of the system. The only other test I can think of is to reinstall the 670, completely remove the drivers & then reinstall the drivers from scratch (just in case some sort of wonky driver issue is causing the problem). If that doesn't work, then the GPU has somehow gone bad (most likely whatever chip is controlling the HDMI ports interface with the main GPU chip), which means you're looking at a new GPU. On the bright side, you should be able to pick up a nice GTX 1060 for under $300 US (or even go 'team red' & get an RX 470/480).

Thanks for the insight. I assumed there might have been a power consumption issue with the old 775 board, even though it had both 12v PCIE power rails attached. I had it in my mind that the PCIE 2.0 wasn't giving it enough juice, but apparently it should work, just not in my case lol. The system has more than ample power with a silverstone 750w PSU and hardly any drain on it, so I can't fathom why it wouldn't post.

I'm really disappointed that the 670 has gone bad. I've never had anything like this happen before, least of all with a high-end Asus card. That strix was the go-to model and sold like hotcakes. I never would have expected this.

I just have to wait for the 1080ti to hit the market next year and I'll grab two for the main rig and use it's 980's in the new rig. Till then the 560 will have to chug along.

Cheers!

AFAIK the GTX670-DC2T-2GD5 only comes with a 3 year warranty and I bought it back in August 2012.

It's cool though, I was planning on buying the 1080ti's when they launch regardless. But I'm a little sour as I was planning on giving this old rig to my brother along with the 670- technically it should still work if he uses DP lol.
