HDMI cable changes resolution?

Whenever i use a hdmi cable for my monitor it always changes the resolution to 1024x768 and there is no other option to change it. note i have updated my graphics card. so what is the problem and what can i do to change it. any answer helps thanks

Maybe it's not handshaking with the PC properly. In the driver settings under the advanced tab somewhere there's an option to show unsupported resolutions, as long as you know what the monitor supports you can manually choose the correct setting. I don't have a windows 8 machine handy to find where the setting is.

thing is that ive used an hdmi cable before its just one day when i turned on my pc the resolution was changed
