HDMI Cable Not Displaying Proper Image

I was using my DVI cable while waiting for my HDMI to arrive. Once I plugged in the HDMI cable, I had no mouse and no control over the screen. My desktop icons were gone and only my taskbar was showing but I still could not do anything. When I press ctrl + alt + delete my screen goes black. Help!

Did you leave the DVI cable in? sounds like it setup the HDMI as a "2nd" monitor. Unplug the DVI, and reboot the PC.
