hdmi cable not working with my lg cellphone to tv

I bought the hdmi converter that will connect to my lg optimus cell to tv, but there's nothing comin out on tv.

Daft question incoming...is the TV set to the right HDMI port? Sometimes the TV's come with two ports and they'll have to option to display Port 1 or Port 2. Just hit the Source button on your remote to switch to it and see if anything comes through? Also, do you have to set the Optimus to push HDMI display out?

I did put the right tv source, unfortunately is not working. Do I really have to buy a 1.3 or 1.4 hdmi male cable to support my hdmi adapter from my smartphone? What is 1.3 hdmi cable anyway? Thanks!
