Hi, is hdmi cables are backwards compatible with older versions of hdmi and sockets? I plan to get an xbox series s for my monitor, my monitor have displayport socket, is there "man" "woman" thing in these two cables? Can I use a converter for it? to connect the console? am I going to have issues with it? I did read that xbox series s have higher hdmi version, this can lead to stability issues with a older hdmi cable?

Thanks in advance

Backwards compatible to older versions? Yes.
Convert HDMI to DP? There are adapters available but many will be substandard. You'll have to do your own reasearch.
You can start here - https://www.amazon.com/s?k=HDMI+to+DisplayPort&i=electronics&ref=nb_sb_noss_2

Hey thanks alot for fast reply, will do thanks, I'm glad hdmi is ok with older versions. There is a woman man thing with old VGA DVI cables back in the day as far as I remember, is that still valid for hdmi and display port too? I have to pay attention to that too before buying yes? (sorry if that sounds dumb)

Doesn't sound dumb at all. In the IT field we usually called them 'male to female' connectors and even called the little adapter to switch from one to the other a 'gender bender'. 😉

Gender benders are still valid and used, however, you need to make sure you get good quality products. There are a floods of substandard converters/benders on the market that can cause issues or be from 3 generations ago.

Thanks alot for the detailed answer, much appreciated, I just found out we already have an HDMI cable in the some old crate, its written on it "high speed ethernet" this can work on xbox series s? so now all we need is an converter right? My monitor is an old Dell 60hz and I plan to connect it to this monitor I usually using it for my computer. I heard pc monitors also can be used for console screens, since we don't own a 4K 8K TV this is the best we have. However this monitor only have VGA and DisplayPort sockets, so a converter needed, sorry if this sounds dumb too but can I use HDMI and converter in both sides? or one hdmi cable can only be plugged in to a this way or that way. My brain hurts since yesterday thinking and controlling all the cable stuff, these things are overpriced here so I have to make everything count and in proper order.

Thanks again

PROBLEM SOLVED

We also found an old ATI Radeon graphics converter from HDMI to DVI and my monitor supports DVI, plugged in to my monitor to test it to see if cable work or not and it worked. I can only imagine this HDMI cable can also plug in to the xbox series s other end.

Yay
