I've had this problem for quite a while and have now grown tired of it so I decided to ask someone more competent than myself.

After using my pc for a year or so I suddenly encountered an error where the screen goes black. Sometimes for second, sometimes until I change channels away from HDMI and back again, or shut off the screen. The screen doesn't give me an error such as no connection nor does it go to standby mode. This error doesn't occur when I am playing games, nor does it occur on a VGA/DVI connection. I've tried changing the HDMI cable and tried attatching it to my second GPU yet nothing has changed.

The screen itself has been hooked up to another PC for a year and a half now with no problems at all, yet when I came back and got my screen back, the error occured again. Hence I'd say that it's specific to this particular screen/pc setup.

My build is as follows:
Motherboard: Intel DP55KG
CPU: Intel i7-870
GPU: 2x gigabyte geforce 560 ti in SLI
PSU: SeaSonic 1000W Platinum 80+
RAM: 2x4gb Kingston KVR1333D3N9/4G
Monitor: Asus VK278Q
Case: NZXT S340
Storage: Samsung 850 EVO 500gb & Seagate ST1000DM003 1TB

Solution
There must be a slot/gpu/motherboard error. Try switching slots between your GPU's, test each of your GPU's. Maybe it's overheating or such so its shutting itself down

Chances are that I might've fried it due to a rather horrible case with no airflow nor cable management before I bought the current one. Any idea why it only shuts off using HDMI and NOT in games though?

Might be your PSU's fault too, not enough power/lightning etc. Not a clue, usually it shuts off at higher temperatures..
