HDMI converted to DP

Hello, I recently bought the alienware g-sync monitor that can push 240hz. My main computer build is not complete yet so in the mean time I am using my asus rog strix laptop with a 1070 gpu. The laptop only has an hdmi port so I am wondering if I use a converter, will I be able to get more than 60hz on the monitor? Or am I still bottlenecked by the weakest link on the chain?

i am an idiot. My laptop has a mini display port so I don't need the HDMI at all. Also to answer my own question. No, it would only get 60hz
