Neither does HDMI. In fact they use the same pinout because HDMI is a derivative of DVI. The audio is just carried on the video stream. One of the advantages of them being related is that the same controller can be used for both signals and just operate in DVI mode or HDMI mode depending on the device attached. In fact the HDMI specification requires this. So pretty much any device in the last 15 years or so will support DVI devices on HDMI ports, and HDMI devices on DVI ports, with sound and everything.

Does your monitor have the audio mini pin input. If so just get audio to monitor using an mini pin audio cable. If not I just looked on offerup.com and you can get a GTX 750ti for $10 bucks.

Same as a GTX 960 $10 or a GTX 1060 $40 bucks.

Option three is go on line a get a cheap computer desktop speakers and just get sound that way if no audio input is on the monitor and your fine not fixing the video card issue you said you might have if your GPU stops working.

DVI can carry audio. On any GPU that supports HDMI audio output, so gtx400 series and newer for Nvidia for example, you can use a DVI to HDMI converter and use built in monitor speakers.

I'm not 100% sure if this will work on your exact system, but you can get one of these adapters for $2 or so to test. Very little risk of it doesn't work

That is just non-compliant DVI. The SPEC does not support audio.
