HDMI on motherboard not working

Okay so I am having an issue with the Hdmi output on my P8z77-v-lk motherboard. I am currently able to use the hdmi output on my AMD radeon hd 7850 graphics card. I don't know why the hdmi output isn't working on the motherboard. Every time i connect to it, my screen is just black, tries to connect then cant. Is there a way i can enable it to to be used, or is it defective? Any help would be awesome. Thanks in advance.

It might be a port issue (faulty contact). Can you borrow different cable for testing?
