HDMI or DP? 144hz monitor.

Hey guys.
Been wanting to upgrade my gaming setup for a while now and planning to order a new benQ 144hz monitor.
I have a MSi Geforce GTX 960 videocard with 3x DisplayPorts, 1xHDMI and 1x DVI-D connections.
I currently have two 60hz monitors.
What I am wondering is what connector on the videocard should I use with my 144hz monitor, and are there different types of those cables that are better than others?
I want to maximize the potential of the monitor to create the best experience.

Personally DP, you may find your monitor comes with one.

HDMI only supports 60hz or below I think.

Why do you prefer DP? Is there any benefits to DP that HDMI doesn’t have? Will there be any picture quality differences?

Either dual link DVI or Display Port.
If you want to use G-Sync also, then DP may be the only option.

Display port is the most capable video connection type.
It's often capable of higher refresh rates and resolutions than the other types.

I've tried everything and the only thing that works for my Lenovo legion y720 is USB-C to DVI-D adapter I'm getting 1080p @ 144hz .

This is a desktop with a 960.but she what you are trying to say, there is no need for usb c.
