So, my HDMI port on my basically-brand-new computer simply does not work. Drivers are fully updated/reinstalled. HDMI cable is brand new, has been tested and works perfectly with other electronic stuff.

I have tried connecting my main monitor (AOC G2460PQU) via HDMI and it results in a black screen. I have tried connecting an external display (TV) and it does not "detect" the secondary display. Ideas?

Graphics card: Nvidia GeForce GTX 970
CPU: Intel i5-4690
Windows 7

Solution
this might be a bit stupid, but this is what i did wrong when i had the same problem:

I connected the hdmi to the motherboard hdmi port instead of using the hdmi porton the graphics card it self.

if that isnt the problem, disconnect your graphics card and use the hdmi port on your motherboard and it should turn on
