HDMI splitter either works on both screens or neither

I used an hdmi splitter to split my 2nd monitor to two. But if i change the input in one, it cuts of the signal to the second. Is this cause of a cheap splitter or the tv monitor hardware? Details: i use a dvi on my pc as first monitor and an hdmi splitter on my 2nd and my tv. It works fine. But if change the input on my tv from hdmi to antenna then the other 2nd monitor also loses signal. Very wierd

Does the second monitor lose signal if you:

1) just unplug the supply HDMI cable to the TV?

2) Just turn off and/or unplug the TV?

What sort of antenna connection is being used?

It loses signal on both the above. If the tv is off or unpluged it mostly makes the signal half gone (makes randomly half of the pixels look like burned) if i change the input to the tv to something else it loses it completely. Could well be "just messed up".

Many such products are made as cheaply as possible sans any meaningful QA and testing.

Any way that you can try the splitter in some other environment?

If the problem follows the splitter then it may be time to return (if possible) or replace the splitter.
